Just two days to go for the T20 Blast 2020 quarterfinals. For the second match of 17th September, we have Lancashire Lightning up against Yorkshire Vikings. The Vikings will be playing without their four players including skipper David Willey who were pulled out from their previous matches over Coronavirus concerns. The result of their test is still awaited.
The last time both the teams played each other on 14th of September, Lancashire had the upper hand who won the match by 6 wickets. Opting to bat first, Yorkshire could put up only 145 on the board for the loss of 9 wickets. This is courtesy 36 off 20 by captain Adam Lyth and 27 off 24 by Dawid Malan. While on the Headingley surface the score looked defendable, Yorkshire bowlers failed to defend it. Lancashire captain Dane Vilas scored 44 off 36 balls and Rob Jones scored 38 off 35 to take the team over the line.
With the win, Lacashire qualified for the quarter finals of Vitality T20 Blast 2020 while Yorkshire had already knocked out of the competition.
Since then, the Yorkshire form hasn't improved and they lost the game against Durham, a team placed below them in points table. Durham won the match by 43 runs convincingly. Yorkshire got bundled up for 104 which exposed their batting weakness since the 4 players left. Since then Lancashire Lightnings haven't played any match and would definitely look to extend their winning run.
This match is a great opportunity for the Lancashire team to test their bench strength. They have couple of games left, the other matches being against Durham and Leicestershire on 18th of September and 20th September respectively.
