IPL Auction 2021- All you need to know

by  Neel Ashar  •  Last updated on 2021-01-09 20:51:18

The 14th Edition of Indian Premier League is likely to happen between 11 April 2021 and 6 June 2021 as the England tour of India is to finish by 28 March. While the 2020 Edition of Dream11 IPL was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and shifted to the September- November window, there is no reason to delay this year's IPL season. The BCCI has worked incredibly hard to put together everything and try to stage the 2021 Edition in India. While the venue has not been announced yet, it will most likely be held in India. The worst case scenario will see the tournament being played in the United Arab Emirates again.

While we wait for the schedule of the 14th Edition of Indian Premier League, there is an update on the 2021 auction that is set to be held on February 11. The venue has not been decided yet, but the auction will be squeezed in between the first 2 Test matches scheduled between England and India in Chennai. The IPL Governing Council has given all the 8 franchises a deadline of January 20 to finalise a list of players that they want to retain for the 2021 edition. These franchises also need to submit the list of players they want to release on the same day.

Who will host the 14th Edition of Indian Premier League 2021?

The member panel of Indian Premier League, consisting of former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha and former Indian batsman Brijesh Patel had a lengthy discussion at a meeting convened to discuss the possible venues for Indian Premier League this summer. While the pandemic's threat is still looming large in India despite a continuous drop in the number of active cases and mortalities, the United Arab Emirates is being kept on standby as an alternative venue to host this year's IPL. There were many deliberations regarding the venues and home and away format of the Indian Premier League should the tournament be played in India. If the home and away format is used in these treacherous times, eight venues will need to have bio-secure bubbles and strict measures in place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the IPL. It is a logistical and safety challenge for the BCCI and all relevant stakeholders. The United Arab Emirates hosted the Indian Premier League last year from September to November. The BCCI is understood to be pleased with all the safety precautions and arrangements in place there.

How much money does each team have in their purse for this year's auction?

After an enhancement of INR 3 Crore for the balance purse of each team, here is the estimated balance-

Royal Challengers Bangalore - INR 9.4 Crore

Mumbai Indians - INR 4.95 Crore

Chennai Super Kings - INR 3.15 Crore

Rajasthan Royals - INR 17.75 Crore

Sunrisers Hyderabad - INR 13.1 Crore

Delhi Capitals - INR 12 Crore

Kolkata Knight Riders - INR 11.5 Crore

Kings XI Punjab - INR 19.5 Crore

The 14th Edition of Indian Premier League will be a treat to watch for fans across the globe. A lot of superstars would take part in this year's Indian Premier League and gain valuable crease time to prepare for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup to be held in India in October.
