India allrounder Axar Patel has been declared fit for selection for the upcoming second Test against England in Chennai, from Saturday, after missing the series opener due to a knee injury

Axar had been ruled out ahead of a probable Test debut in the first of the four Tests against the visitors after he complained of pain in his left knee.

With Axar back in contention, the BCCI selection panel have now withdrawn both Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Chahar from the main squad. The two spinners have instead been added back to the list of standby players.

Squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Wriddhiman Saha (wicketkeeper), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur

Standby players: K S Bharat, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shahbaz Nadeem, Rahul Chahar, Priyank Panchal

Net Bowlers: Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, Krishnappa Gowtham, Saurabh Kumar

Meanwhile, England will be without their strike pacer Jofra Archer for the second game. Archer is nursing an elbow niggle and had to take an injection to combat the pain.
