IPL

Analysis for the match.

It’s difficult to see how Rajasthan Royals can pick themselves up following their most recent defeat with their batting simply unable to cope with the quality of the Mumbai Indians bowling unit. Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping for a similar story here, although most reassuring from their perspective is the potential return to form of opener Shubman Gill, who scored a half-century in their crucial win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. With plenty of experience within their middle order, an in-form Gill setting the tone from the off would be a huge boost for the Knight Riders. Even if Lockie Ferguson doesn’t not feature here, the KKR bowlers are likely to be afforded plenty of joy against a Rajasthan batting unit overly reliant on their top order and as long as Kolkata Knight Riders do not collapse under the pressure of a must win encounter, then they should come through with the two points here.

Must see points.

1). KKR as superb spin-bowling lineup with three world-class options in the playing eleven

2). RR’s batting has been unreliable and its bowling attack is quite weak

3). KKR’s batting top-order is in good form and it could have Andre Russell available for this match as well

Avg first inning score: 132 runs (7 IPL Matches have been played at the venue).

Match Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders to win the match.

1). If KKR won the toss and opted to bowl first, RR could score 125-145 runs.

2). If RR won the toss and opted to bowl first, KKR could score 140-160 runs.

Secondary Predictions.

1). Venkatesh Iyer total runs - Over 19.5

Venkatesh Iyer has been a revelation for the Knight Riders in the ongoing edition of the IPL. In six matches, the left-handed batter has already racked up 201 runs at an average of 40.20 and a strike rate of 134. Although he failed to score against the Sunrisers, he is more than capable of making up for it against the Royals.

2). Rahul Tripathi total runs - Over 18.5

Rahul Tripathi has been in good form and is also a competent player of spin. His place at number three makes him perfectly placed to make the most of his good form and get some runs in this match as well.

Match Preview.

Match 54 of the Indian Premier League sees Kolkata Knight Riders take on Rajasthan Royals at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah in Thursday’s late game. A win for KKR will secure their place in the play-offs whereas a win for Rajasthan Royals will open the door for other teams to potentially snatch 4th place. Read on as we preview this game. The match in Sharjah begins at 19:30 local time.

KKR would be happy that it is playing its final match against RR but it may not be very pleased with playing in Sharjah. The conditions in Sharjah have been very slow and not conducive to strokeplay. In fact, batting first can be a tricky thing because the par total is not easy to determine.

Shubman Gill made runs in the previous match while Rahul Tripathi, Venkatesh Iyer, and Nitish Rana have been in good form. This makes the KKR batting lineup stronger than the Rajasthan batting lineup for sure.

There is a slight chance that Andre Russell might be fit for this match and so that is something that you should watch out for as well.

KKR’s bowling attack is very strong and nicely suited to the spin-friendly surface expected for this match. Shakib Al Hasan, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine are going to challenge any batting lineup in front of them. Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi form a decent pace bowling duo as well.

The Rajasthan Royals would be very disappointed with their performances in the last few weeks of IPL 2021. They had the opportunity to qualify but just could not perform when it mattered the most.

RR’s batting is not very bad and that is where it could spring a surprise against KKR. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Evin Lewis, and even Sivam Dube are all capable of winning matches on their own.

With nothing on the line, the RR batsmen may find it a bit tough to motivate themselves for this final match. The bowling selections have been quite difficult to understand as well. What is the point of having someone like Jaydev Unadkat in your squad if you just don’t want to play him?

The bowling lacks pace, quality death bowlers, and spinners that you can depend on. The team has also failed to find the right balance in these final stages of IPL 2021.

Pitch reports.

The conditions in Sharjah have been very difficult for the batsmen. Scores of 130-140 have been tough to chase down and setting a target seems particularly tough. We expect another low-scoring match where the spinners will dominate and batsmen will find it difficult to hit many sixes.

Team News.

Kolkata Knight Riders>>

After a relatively easy win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, KKR must now keep their heads and avoid any batting collapses or nightmare bowling spells in this game. For that reason, we expect Eoin Morgan to pack his team full of experienced players for this match. With three wins from their last five games, KKR are used to putting victories on the board. However, they have not won consecutive matches since September.

Possible XI - Venkatesh Iyer, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (C),Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Tim Seifert/Shakib Al Hasan, Tim Southee, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi

Bench - Karun Nair, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Shakib Al Hasan/Tim Seifert, Ben Cutting, Pawan Negi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Andre Russell, Sheldon Jackson, Harbhajan Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sandeep Warrier, Vaibhav Arora, Sandeep Warrier, Lockie Ferguson

Rajasthan Royals>>

It has been an up and down IPL 2021 for Rajasthan Royals and unless they can pull off a big win in this match and other results go in their favour, they will be eliminated from the tournament. They have no choice but to come out and play a very attacking brand of cricket in this match.Sanju Samson’s side have won only two games since the tournament restarted in the UAE. It would be a huge achievement to qualify for the play-offs from here.

Possible XI - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c, wk), Evin Lewis, Glenn Phillips, Mahipal Lomror, Shivam Dube, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Kartik Tyagi/Kuldip Yadav, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rahman
