ICC T20 World Cup Round 1: Ireland v/s Sri Lanka Match Prediction, Betting Tips and Odds

by  Neel Ashar  •  Last updated on 2021-10-20 00:44:55

Who are the favourites?

Sri Lanka are the overwhelming favourites to win this match. They have a plethora of talent in their arsenal. When it comes to must-win games, they perform to their maximum potential more often than not. In recent times, they have not lit up the T20 arena but expect them to come out all guns blazing with an eye on qualifying for the next round. However, they are up against a rampant Irish outfit that is capable of beating any team on their day. They are not a team to be taken lightly by any means.

Scorecard Predictions

1) If IRE bats first, they will score 150/8. SL will chase this down in 19 overs with 5 wickets to spare.

2) If SL bats first, they will score 175/8. IRE will score 155/10 and lose by 20 runs.

Toss Prediction

Expect the captain winning the toss to bowl first, given that the pitch is relatively flattish and would remain the same throughout the match duration. The team chasing has the added advantage of knowing the target.

Market Tips and Odds (as of 11:00 a.m. IST 19th October 2021 )

Sri Lanka to win the match (Betway - 1.36)

Sri Lanka should put on a remarkable show against the men from Europe.

With the added motivation of qualifying for Round 2, expect the best out of the former T20 World Cup Champions.

This team has a few proven matchwinners that could steal the show on their day.

Betway Predictions-

The first ball of the match to be a dot (1.66)

The contest's first ball will almost probably be a dot ball.

Both teams' openers will want to watch what the pitch does for an over or two to gain a feel for it.

The Sheikh Zayed International Stadium pitch maybe a tad slower and lower first up, hence it is important to assess the surface's pace and bounce first.

Sri Lanka to have a higher opening partnership (1.66)

Sri Lanka are expected to have a higher opening stand than their Irish counterparts.

The likes of Danajaya de Silva and Pathum Nissanka have the knack for annihilating opposition bowlers by their strokeplay.

The Sri Lankan opening pair tasted success recently against India at home and would want to continue the good form.

The first mode of dismissal to be a catch (1.40)

The first dismissal of the match is more likely to be a catch than any other type of dismissal.

Because the pitch may be a little slower and lower, catches would be considerably more plentiful.

If batters do not time their shots correctly, the ball may grip the surface and loop up to fielders.
