Analysis for the match
The Punjab Kings have put together an impressive squad but their coaching staff remains almost the same. Tactics have proven to be their Achilles heel in the past so could they end up underperforming once more? RCB has a bowling-heavy lineup but some key missing players, as well as questions about team balance, loom ahead of them. The best IPL betting sites are surprisingly picking RCB as the favorite to win but only by a small margin.
Must see points.
1). PBKS has a stronger batting lineup
2). RCB has an excellent bowling lineup unlike in previous years
3). RCB's lack of power in the middle as well a question mark over its batting options could cost it heavily in this contest

Match Prediction: Punjab Kings to win the match.
1). If PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl first, RCB could score 150-170 runs.
2). If RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first, PBKS could score 160-180 runs.
1). Arshdeep Singh to pick 2+ wickets. - Yes (2.50 odds)
This is an interesting betting market by Betway. Arshdeep Singh is being offered at excellent odds and because he bowls during the death, he could be an excellent option to consider. Batsmen always tend to go after him and he ends up getting wickets.
2). Shikhar Dhawan total runs - over 26.5 runs (1.65 odds)
Shikhar Dhawan signed for Punjab Kings ahead of this season and hit 587 runs in 2021. He is our tip to score at least 27 runs.
3). Total sixes in the match - over 13.5 runs.
The first few matches of the season should have the best surface to play on. We think that could result in a lot of sixes being hit. Also, the trend in T20 cricket seems to be towards maximizing sixes rather than preserving wickets. All things added up, with two strong batting lineups, we can see Over 13.5 sixes being hit.
The Punjab Kings have appointed Mayank Aggarwal as their captain for IPL 2022 and given him a pretty solid squad to work with. Like most other teams, PBKS is also going to be missing a couple of its key players. Jonny Bairstow is with the England team while Kagiso Rabada is also only going to be available from the second match on.
That means we could see a couple of their reserve overseas players get a game. The batting lineup is still very strong. Shikhar Dhawan has had two absolutely smashing IPL seasons before this one and will lead the batting once more. We always bet on Dhawan to score runs in the IPL and will be doing so once more.
His opening partner is likely to be Mayank Aggarwal and maybe Bhanuka Rajapaksa could play at number three (in place of Bairstow). Liam Livingstone at four will be followed by the all-rounders. Shahrukh Khan, Raj Bawa, and Odean Smith should all lineup here in flexible positions.
The bowling lineup will definitely have Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar, and Harpreet Brar with the final spot a toss-up between Benny Howell/ Nathan Ellis.
We think Benny Howell has a better chance of playing this first match.
This is a strong lineup with dependable Indian batting, powerful middle-order, all-round options, and death bowling expertise. The trick, as we mentioned, is going to be getting all of these players in the right places.
RCB is going to be led by Faf du Plessis, who at this late stage in his career, is going to also be one of the main batters for RCB. Faf du Plessis had a lot of success with CSK and is probably the right choice for captain but we think his batting may provide diminishing returns at this stage in his career.
For the first time in their existence as an IPL team, RCB seems to be a better bowling lineup than it is a batting team. Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj, Wanindu Hasaranga, and David Willey are all likely to play the first match. Josh Hazelwood is not available and while that is a big blow, RCB still has a very good bowling attack.
Shahbaz may also find a place in the eleven as a spin-bowling all-rounder to add more options to the playing eleven.
The problem for RCB might arise on the batting front.
Faf du Plessis is likely to open the batting with Anuj Rawat or Virat Kohli. Finn Allen is also a good choice to open with but his previous record has not been too good in the IPL. Also, Virat's form has now been an issue for long enough that RCB will be worried. A couple of early wickets could bring the likes of Sherfane Rutherford, Mahipal Lomror, and Dinesh Karthik in the middle with a lot of overs still remaining.
That is not ideal. Having Shahbaz and Hasaranga as the lower middle-order also seems a bit risky. They are decent batters but have not proven themselves to be powerful finishers at the IPL. We have seen in the past how performances in other T20 leagues do not always translate into IPL success.
RCB's potential playing eleven and squad is definitely not weak but there are more than a couple of question marks about it. We certainly would not pick it as the favorite to win and that is where a betting opportunity may lie.
Time - Mar 27th, 07:30 PM, IST.
Venue - Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Academy - Navi Mumbai, India
There is no rain forecast in Mumbai but there is going to be a lot of humidity and probably some dew. The pitch at the DY Patil Stadium is generally very good. It has a nice amount of bounce and pace that stays the same for the duration of the match. The outfield at this venue is bigger than at other venues and so the spinners have a bit more of a role to play.
The conditions are still loaded in favor of the batsmen, though. We think something around 170 is going to be at this venue.
The Kings will be without England keeper-batter Jonny Bairstow who is playing in the Final Test of the West Indies v England series. They will also not be able to call upon the services of South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada who was playing in an ODI series against Bangladesh until Wednesday.
Possible XI - Mayank Agarwal (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, Rishi Dhawan / Benny Howell, Harpreet Brar, Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar, Sandeep Sharma
Royal Challengers Bangalore>>
RCB will be missing two of their Australian contingent for their first game of and other early games of the tournament with all-rounder Glenn Maxwell getting married and Josh Hazlewood on international duty in Pakistan. However, they have strength in depth in their squad and will still put out an impressive XI.
Possible XI - Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, David Willey, Harshal Patel, Karn Sharma / Siddarth Kaul, Mohammad Siraj
