by  Lakshya Baghel  •  Last updated on 2022-06-23 17:12:47

Analysis for the match.

The Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022 season is about to begin and there is a lot of excitement among keen cricket watchers. In many ways, Tamil Nadu has been the production line for talent that has gone on to represent several IPL teams and even the Indian team. This makes the TNPL very closely observed by everyone around India and it has grown into the premier state domestic T20 competition in India.

The first match is going to be between the Chepauk Super Gillies and the Nellai Royal Kings. With three titles in five years, the Chepauk Super Gillies are the most successful team in the history of the TNPL. They are also considered one of the title contenders for TNPL 2022.

Must see points.

1). Chepauk Super Gillies have a stronger batting lineup

2). Nellai Royal Kings seem to lack depth and will struggle if they lose early wickets

3). Chepauk Super Gillies appear to be a more balanced side at the moment

Head to Head to matches.

Overall Matches - 5

CSG won - 4

NRK won - 1

N/R - 0

Match Predictions: CSG to win the match.

1). If CSG won the toss and opted to bowl first, NRK could score 150-170 runs.

2). If NRK won the toss and opted to bowl first, CSG could score 165-185 runs.

Secondary Predictions.

1). Narayan Jagdeesan total runs - over 23.5 runs.

Only two players scored more runs than Narayan Jagadeesan in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Premier League and the keeper batter is our rip for Chepauk Super Gillies’ highest run scorer against Nellai Royal Kings.

2). Baba Aparajit total runs - over 24.5 runs.

There was a lack of runs from Nellai Royal Kings over the course of the tournament last season and we are backing their captain, Baba Aparajith, to be their highest run scorer in this opening game.

Match Preview.

The Chepauk Super Gillies have seen a bit of churn in their squad like any other team. The leadership of the team has now been handed over to Kaushik Gandhi, who is also one of the leading batters for the team. The big acquisition is that of N Jagadeesan who is certainly one of the more exciting batters in this tournament.

U Sasidev, Rajagopal Sathish, and Sony Yadav are some of the other players that will help add depth to the batting lineup.

The bowling lineup is also quite decent. R Sai Kishore, B Arun, and Sandeep Warrior are the bowlers that will lead the attack for the Chepauk Super Gillies.

The Chepauk Super Gillies have lost some of their best batters from the previous seasons but we still think they are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

The Nellai Royal Kings revolves around the two brothers, Baba Aparajith and Baba Inderjith. We saw Baba Inderjith turn out for KKR in IPL 2022, a chance he got thanks to his stellar domestic form. Unfortunately, he did not do too well in the IPL but at the TNPL level, he is still a massive player to watch out for.

The problem for the Nellai Royal Kings has been finding support for the brothers in the past. G Ajitesh, K Easwaran, and Sanjay Yadav are three players in the squad that could play a big role in the batting lineup.

As far as the bowling goes, Athisayaraj Davidson will lead the attack. He is a dependable wicket-taker and will certainly play a vital role. The rest of the bowling seems to be largely all-rounders and bits and pieces cricketers.

Venue - Indian Cement Company Ground - Tirunelveli, India

Pitch reports.

The weather forecast for Tirunelveli is quite good. No rain has been forecast and we don't expect any interruptions. The pitch should start out as being good for batting but it does tend to help the spinners at this venue. The inherent slow nature and low bounce is not going to go away.

Team News.

Chepauk Super Gillies>>

Chepauk Super Gillies had a sticky start last year with a no-result against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans before losing to Nellai Royal Kings. However, it did them no harm in the long-run and we expect them to line up with the same XI who won the 2021 final.Although Chepauk Super Gillies lost their final group stage game and the Qualifier 1 last year, they ended the campaign with successive victories and the title.

Possible XI - Kaushik Gandhi (c), Narayan Jagadeesan (wk), Radhakrishnan, Uthirasamy Sasidev, Rajogopal Satish, S Harish Kumar, Sonu Yadav, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Manimaran Siddharth, B Arun, Ramadoss Alexander

Nellai Royal Kings>>

Baba Aparajith’s side will be looking for more consistency this season after producing some impressive results last year but not managing to qualify for the play-offs. Although Nellai have picked up some interesting new signings, we expect them to stick with the majority of the same XI that we saw in 2021.Nellai Royal Kings were beaten by Lyca Kovai Kings in their final game last year. The result ended Nellai Royal Kings’ winning run at two games.

Possible XI - Baba Aparajith (c), Laxmesha Suryaprakash, Pradosh Ranjan Paul, Arya Yohan Memon, Sri Neranjan, Baba Indrajith (wk), Sanjay Yadav, Jitendra Kumar, NS Harish, H Trilok Nag, V Athisayaraj Davidson
