Match Preview.

The second qualifier of the 2022 version of TNPL will feature Nellai Royal Kings against Lyca Kovai Kings. The winners of this game will take their spot in the TNPL 2022 finals to be played on Sunday. In another eliminator round of TNPL on Tuesday, Lyca Kovai Kings defeated Siechem Madurai Panthers with a D/L method by 20 runs. Nellai Royal Kings on the other hand lost to Chepauk Super Gillies in the first qualifier they played on Wednesday. This game is to be played at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. Nellai Royal Kings were unbeaten in the league stages until a couple of games ago. They will be keen to avoid another and third consecutive defeat in the competition. They do have a powerful line-up though, going into this match.

Nellai provided a 17-year-old spinner Karthick Manikandan a cap against Chepauk Super Gillies. They left out Rooban Raj from the eleven to accommodate the spinner. Manikandan impressed everyone with figures of 3 for 14 from his quota of 4 overs. He is sure to retain his place in the team for this match. In his last appearance for Nellai at this venue Sanjay Yadav hit 103 not out. He also took a wicket in this game on the same surface. He is the batsman the team will be looking at to deliver the goods again. A left-arm spinner called NS Harish took 3 wickets in 2 games in Coimbatore earlier in the tournament. He is going to be a tough customer in this match to get away. The Nellai team has lost its last couple of games by 5 wickets and 5 runs respectively. However, this doesn’t mean that they have become a bad team overnight. They have played superbly throughout the competition and it is likely to hold them in good stead.

The Lyca Kovai Kings is one of the in-form teams in the competition. They have lost only to the Nellai Royals Kings in their last 6 games. Due to this terrific record of late, confidence will be flowing freely in the veins of Kovai Kings cricketers. The Lyca Kovai Kings team is led by Shahrukh Khan. He led the team to a 5-run victory over Nellai Royal Kings in the 26th match of the TNPL 2022. He will lead an unchanged side in all probability that played in the eliminator against the team of Siechem Madurai Panthers. Even though the batting orders can be changed according to the needs, you can expect the Lyca team to field the same eleven that played this game. One of the key players for Lyca Kovai Kings is Suresh Kumar. Only Sanjay Yadav from Nellai Royal Kings has scored a greater number of runs than the Kovai opener. He has managed to hit 53 fours in the competition so far.

Another crucial player for LKK is the 29-year-old southpaw Ganga Sridhar Raju. In the eliminator match, he was the top scorer with 49 runs from 40 balls. In the game, before that, he hit 48 runs from 43 balls. So, he is in top form for Lyca. Abhishek Tanwar is a medium pacer who is a leading wicket-taker in the tournament. At the moment he is averaging 13.13 for every wicket and his every wicket comes in 11 balls. Six matches ago the Lyca team looked down and out of the competition. However, after that, they just lost one game. The team is peaking at the right time.

Match details.

Pitch reports.

We are expecting hot and humid conditions during the game. These conditions could get even tougher as the match progresses. There is also a threat of a possible thunderstorm on Friday evening at the grounds. Even though we saw a massive total of 236 runs at this venue from Nellai Royal Kings earlier in the competition, we are expecting a more realistic total of around 180 runs while batting first. Spinners will get help from the surface and the faster bowlers will enjoy the overcast conditions to get some swing.
