Bangladesh is all set to host India for a three-match ODI series, kicking-off on Sunday at the Shere-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. The hosts will keep a check on their ODI World Cup preparation with all experienced players in the mix. Skipper Tamim Iqbal is ruled out of the series due to injury concerns and veteran opener Liton Das will lead the team for the entire 50-over setup.
Bangladesh are always dangerous in their backyard and will definitely look to take an early lead in the inaugural game. Taskin Ahmed is unavailable for the opening clash, and the onus will be on Mustafizur Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan and Hasan Mahmud to start on a high note against India’s mighty batters. Litton Das will be the player to watchout in the opening game, the stand-in skipper is highest run-getter for Bangladesh in ODIs.
After a disappointing outing in New Zealand ODIs, Men In Blue will start afresh in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh. Team India will launch into ODI World Cup 2023 preparations, as all the first-choice players will be back into the playing XI. With the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and in-form Virat Kohli at their ranks, the tourists should have no problems racking-up runs at Mirpur's wicket.
Team India could surprise with their team selection for the opening ODI, as several uncapped players could be tried out to explore options for the World Cup. Rohit Sharma will be paired aside Shikhar Dhawan to pursue the left-right combination. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer will take the charge in the middle order while KL Rahul could be tried out at lower-middle order position. Mohammad Shami is ruled out of the series that promotes Mohammad Siraj with new ball in hand aside Deepak Chahar .
India have dominated Bangladesh in ODIs, beating them in 30 matches out of the 36. They have also won all of the last 5 ODIs they have played against the Bangla Tigers. The last time Bangladesh beat India in an ODI was back in June 2015. India will start as clear favorites for this match despite Bangladesh’s owning home advantage. The home side’s best chance is to restrict the Men in Blue for an under-250 total.
