This match gets underway in Hobart at 19:15 local time.
The fixture list has meant that Hobart Hurricanes have played against the top three teams in a row and they are yet to beat any of them. Sydney Sixers are playing brilliant cricket and will be very hard to stop.
Sydney Sixers added another convincing victory to their list when they beat their city rivals by 125 runs on Saturday. The confidence levels in the team will be sky-high ahead of this game.
Must see point.
1). The Sixers are just too good over Hobart with Smith, Philippe, and Abbott
2). Hobart isn’t bowling well overall and the batters are unreliable
3). Sydney’s depth makes them such a danger in any match

1). Matthew Wade total runs - Over 21.5 runs.
Matthew Wade has hit 281 runs across BBL12 and the Hurricanes’ skipper is our tip for their highest run scorer against Sydney Sixers.
2). Steve Smith total runs - Over 22.5 runs.
Steve Smith has scored centuries in both of his last BBL games and we are backing the international superstar to be Sydney Sixers’ highest run scorer in this match.
3). Sean Abbott total wickets - Over 1.5 runs.
Sean Abbott took another three-wicket haul in the Sydney derby and he is our pick for Sydney Sixers’ top wicket taker in this game.
So, what happened to the Hurricanes? Tim David (326 total runs) and Matthew Wade (281) have been solid enough, and Caleb Jewell is usually dependable but scored only 31 runs in his last three games.
The biggest disappointments have been Zak Crawley (133) and Ben McDermott (181), who just haven’t scored enough to be helpful.
Although it’s hardly his fault, bowler Paddy Dooley has been in and out of the lineup with various injuries and can’t be relied upon. The team doesn’t look good to get out of seventh spot, but if there’s a chance it’ll be through Tim David and bowler Riley Meredith, who has been playing excellently lately with at least one wicket in his last five games (19 overall), but he hasn’t had much help.
Why exactly was Steve Smith left off the Australian squad for the T20 World Cup? Smith made his second century of the BBL season in a crushing win over the Thunder, as the Aussie star batter totalled up a whopping 125* runs from 66 deliveries (5 fours and 9 sixes).
It’s baffling why Smith isn’t considered a T20 expert, given how great he’s playing, as he’s already made 262 runs from just three games! That’s far more than most BBL batters for the entire season.
No other Sixers batter needed to do much after Smith’s giant score, although it was nice to see Henriques with a solid 40 runs, as he was struggling a bit with batting lately.
After making 187 runs, the Sixers bowlers also performed brilliantly, as they absolutely demolished the Thunder for a measly 62 runs. It’s not as bad as the embarrassing 15 runs the Thunder made in the loss to Adelaide, but it’s pretty close.
Abbott was great as usual taking 3/11, and is the league leader with 23 wickets. Steve O’Keefe has been a big surprise, too, taking 4/10 and having 12 overall wickets. Nathan Lyon appears to be injured for a while longer, but the Sixers barely need him.
Time - Jan 23rd, 01:45 pm, IST.
Venue - Bellerive Oval - Hobart, Australia
It will be very humid and the game could start late after a thunderstorm in the early evening. Expect the temperature to be no higher than 18 degrees. There is always something in this pitch for batters and bowlers and a par score is usually in the region of 165-170. Pace bowlers will get movement off the surface.
A groin injury kept left-arm wrist spinner Patrick Dooley out of Friday night’s defeat against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba and we expect this game to come round too early for him to return. Zak Crawley could move up to open with Ben McDermott currently out of form.Hobart Hurricanes have lost their last two games in the BBL 2023 with defeats coming against Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers.
Possible XI - Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Zak Crawley, Matthew Wade (c & wk), Tim David, D Arcy Short, Mitchell Owen, Faheem Ashraf, Joel Paris, Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith
After the Sydney derby, experienced all-rounder Dan Christian announced his plan to retire from all forms of the game at the end of the tournament. We expect him to play all remaining games and be part of an unchanged side in Tasmania. The last time Sydney Sixers did not win a BBL game was due to the weather. They have won their last five matches.
Possible XI - Josh Philippe (wk), Steven Smith, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques (c), Jordan Silk, Hayden Kerr, Daniel Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, Steve O'Keefe, Todd Murphy
