Foreign players get better exposure and perform well on the international stage post IPL experience but the situation is very different for Indian players. Why Indian players are unable to encash the IPL exposure in ICC events?

Let's take 2022 T20 world cup as an example.

Some of our topmost performers in the tournament were Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh.

Let's look at their performances in the tournament against each team -

    Virat Kohli : 82*(53)

    Suryakumar Yadav : 15(10)

    Hardik Pandya : 40(37) and 4–0–30–3

    Arshdeep Singh : 4–0–32–3

    The Netherlands.

    Virat Kohli : 62*(44)

    Suryakumar Yadav : 51*(25)

    Hardik Pandya : 1–0–9–0

    Arshdeep Singh : 4–0–37–2

    South Africa.

    Virat Kohli : 12(11)

    Suryakumar Yadav : 68(40)

    Hardik Pandya : 2(3) and 4–0–29–1

    Arshdeep Singh : 4–0–25–2

    Virat Kohli : 64*(44)

    Suryakumar Yadav : 30(16)

    Hardik Pandya : 5(6) and 3–0–28–2

    Arshdeep Singh : 4–0–38–2

    Virat Kohli : 26(25)

    Suryakumar Yadav : 61*(25)

    Hardik Pandya : 18(18) and 3–0–16–2

    Arshdeep Singh : 2–0–9–1

    Virat Kohli : 50(40)

    Suryakumar Yadav : 14(10)

    Hardik Pandya : 63(33) and 3–0–34–0

    Arshdeep Singh : 2–0–15–0

    Let's leave Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh were our top performers barring Virat Kohli. They all were products of IPL without a doubt. Although it can be argued with Suryakumar Yadav, the likes of Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh did deliver when it required. IPL experience was definitely handy in their case.

On the other hand, the likes of Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kl Rahul (In particular), and Dinesh Karthik (Arguably) didn't step up and make use of their IPL experiences. I'm leaving out Rohit Sharma because he made into the T20 side because of his international experience.

One can see that the performance depends on the abilities of the individuals. The ability to perform under pressure isn't a quality everyone possess. While some make use of it, some cannot.

Similarly, not all the foreign players made the best use of their IPL experience. I can point out the failures of guys like David Warner, Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, and others. So, at the end of the day, everything depends on the individuals.
