Several former Indian cricketers and commentators have said that English and Australian players play IPL just for money and not even participate in the cash-rich league with their full potential. What are your thoughts about the claim? Do you support it?

Most of the Australian Cricketers are not worthless in IPL; it all depends to the 3-dimensional value they bring in while picked as an overseas player in IPL. Because, there are only 4 places for overseas players in an IPL team’s playing XI.

The most worthful Australian Cricketer in IPL as of 2023 is opening batsman David Warner. He has got more than 5000 runs in IPL. That itself is a staggering achievement by a non-Asian cricketer who plays in India, however flat the pitches are. IPL is generally played in the hot summers of March, April, May and Warner performing well in these conditions itself is a testament to his commitment towards IPL.

A player like Steve Smith was once captain of Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants. That shows that he was well committed to IPL a while ago because IPL is a serious business for multiple stakeholders. And they always weigh all the considerations before electing a captain; his form, availability, leadership traits, persona outside the stadium, etc. Now, he is not serious, hence he missed out playing in IPL 2023.

Similarly, a player like Glenn Maxwell has shown his commitment towards IPL, even if he failed miserably in start of his IPL career. Because the franchises know about his ability to change matches with the bat as well as with the ball. Now, him playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, has performed decently with bat as well as with the ball.
